Numerical Analysis of Transonic Flow over a Hemispherical Turret

This research effort addresses the use of numerical simulations to predict the transonic flow over a hemisphere, which represents an airborne turret. Loci/CHEM CFD code will be performed to determine its capabilities of predicting these complex flow features, particularly the shock structure presents at the top of the hemispherical turret. With a better understanding of the flow physics, a flow control system can be proposed to eliminate this shock wave, thus, to reduce the density gradients over the aperture of the laser beam.
