Laser Damage Assessments on a BQM-167 A

Loci/CHEM CFD code was used to simulate the flow around a BQM-167 A drone with and without holes representing laser damages from a laser weapon system. Furthermore, damage assessments were performed using Laser FX to determine the time to effect and angle of incidents due to the laser weapon system.

IMPACT

Accomplishment: Analyzed complex flow physics on a BQM-167A, identifying a potential lethality due to laser burned through; Result: Provided critical information to decision-makers identifying end points for a laser weapon system to prevent hostile drone attacks.
