Improving AFSIM Accessibility Across DoD HPC Systems

In the 21st century battlefield, having the necessary tools readily available to rapidly assess mission and campaign level strategies is critical for success. The DoD HPCMP (High Performance Computing Modernization Program) HEMSA (High Performance Computing Enabled Modeling, Simulation, & Analytics) Institute is confronting this challenge by improving the warfighter’s accessibility to AFSIM (Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling) on supercomputing resources. This will allow strategies to be promptly defined and assessed within HPC-backed AFSIM environments across different classification levels. To enhance user support and reduce onboarding time, the HPCMP’s Portal infrastructure, a secure DoD cloud-based service, will be leveraged in AFSIM’s deployment. This presentation will cover in detail the HEMSA Institute’s progress towards the critical task of improving AFSIM accessibility to the warfighter.

IMPACT

Accomplishment: Installation of AFSIM on multiple unclassified, secret, and above secret HPCMP systems as well as AFSIM GUI access on MHPCC's Portal. Result: Warfighter's accessibility to HPC resources across different classification levels for AFSIM use has been significantly increased.
